Faith Made a Mountain

Pilgrimage
Yesterday, Rich and I drove to San Diego county and picked up our dear friend and co-grandma Judi. We drove two hours into the desert as a spectacular thunderstorm played across the sky before us.

Our destination? Niland, California and Salvation Mountain. We were blessed to meet Leonard Knight, who built the mountain, and Kevin Eubank, who has spent the past year at the mountain with Leonard.

I invite you to read about Leonard and his mountain on its website and to look at the photos I’ve shared below and a video interview with Leonard, also below. Leonard’s words in this video tell his story better than I could.

I encourage you to remember this: Leonard began work on the mountain after a failed 14-year attempt to build and launch a hot-air balloon to carry his message: “God is Love.”

From now on, whenever I’m discouraged, I’m going to think of Leonard and his mountain.

Leonard would want me to tell you, “God is universal. Love is universal.”

Edited to add: If you’re in Southern California, make the trek. You won’t be sorry.

Thumbs Up!

9 I have called you back from the ends of the earth,
saying, ‘You are My servant.’
For I have chosen you
and will not throw you away.
10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with My victorious right hand.
