All I Need to Know about Worship I Learned from Christmas Carols
I love Christmas music. Many of the cherished songs of the season include lyrics that describe worship. Here’s my list of favorite Christmas carol worship instructions. I’ve italicized the verbs–those good old action words:
Fall on your knees! (“O Holy Night”)
Remember, Christ, our Saviour
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray (“God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”)
Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels (“O Come All Ye Faithful”)
Be near me, Lord Jesus
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me I pray (“Away In a Manger”)
Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness! (“Hark the Herald Angels Sing”)
Then let us all rejoice again,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day (“I Saw Three Ships”)
Look now, for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing (“It Came Upon A Midnight Clear”)
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel (“O Come O Come Emmanuel”)
Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord
That hath made Heaven and earth of nought
And with his blood mankind has bought (“The First Noel”)
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room (“Joy to the World”)
Go tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
Our Jesus Christ is born (“Go Tell it on the Mountain”)
Merry Christmas.
7 Sing out your thanks to the
Lord;
sing praises to our God with a harp.
Psalm 147:7 (NLT)
