Love Ambassadors
On rare occasions, I’ve been graced by a profound sense that God is speaking to me. I “hear” His words in my heart.
Much more frequently, He shows Himself to me through the acts of another follower.
Nearly four years ago, during a period of great, mostly self-inflicted upheaval in my life, I began a new job.
I’d been there about a month when one day, sitting at my desk, my burdens overwhelmed me. Tears welled in my eyes and I began to weep.
A moment later, my boss appeared in the doorway of my office. She began to speak, then noticed my distressed state.
She quickly stepped into my office and closed the door.
Then she hugged me. Strongly. Like she meant it. She asked how she could help me and I stammered out a few rambling sentences about my troubles. As I spoke I thought, “Great. I’m displaying my lack of emotional control to my new boss.“
She listened. She sympathized. She offered me encouragement.
She embodied God’s love in the moment when I most needed to be reminded of it.
18 Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. 19 Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God. 20 Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything. 1 John 3:18-20 (NLT)
