Grandfamilies: Every Little Thing

Simply You (1) (1)

You Are a Masterpiece. And So Is Your Most Annoying Relative.

A foundational truth about life in families: God treasures you. He treasures everyone in your family, too.

My friend Deidra Riggs has written this amazing book. It’s called Every Little Thing: Making a World of Difference Right Where You Are. I’m only part way through this book–because the words and the message they carry keep inviting me to return, read them one more time, close my eyes and reflect.

The book is divided into three parts: Knowing Yourself, Following God’s Leading, and Taking the Next Step. If all you did was read the first part of this book, and understand that its message  is true for you and for everyone in your big crazy messed-up family, your life will change.

That’s right. This book is life-changing.

I keep rereading, looking for a wonderful quote to share with you, but every time I begin to type some words from Every Little Thing I can’t choose a stopping point because the words are so well-chosen, so tenderly lined up, that I haven’t the heart to excise one little sentence from this book.

Read this book. I promise you it’ll help you love, and be loved, better.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:7 (NASB)

On Tuesdays, we’re talking about families and the joys and challenges that arise when we stretch across three (or more?) generations (child, parent, grandparent). The conversation began on January sixth and we’ll continue until we run out of things to say. Everyone is welcome, and I hope to hear from each generation’s perspective.  Being family is by turns effortless, impossible, blessed, challenging, hurtful, joyous . . . . Let’s talk about it.

Please join us.
